In December, the office of Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) sets up for P14.6 billion contract bidding on Laguindingan Airport on its Operation and Maintenance (O&M).
In a news report of PhilStar, Joseph Emilio Abaya, DOTC Secretary, said that the government will bid out a contract in the Laguindingan Airport's Operation and Maintenance contract since the opening of airport last June 2013.
According to Secretary, Laguindingan airport was already at capacity and offer a solution to incorporate for the infra expansion for the operations to spare future administrations with the similar issues.
The older Lumbia Airport in Cagayan de Oro was replaced by the more modern and state-of-the-art Laguindingan International Airport (LIA). The Lumbia Airport already catered 1.6 million passenger per year. It is expected also that in 2017, it will hit 2.58 million per year.
As such, Abaya said the public private partnership (PPP) project would be awarded in the third quarter of next year.
Starting in the middle of 2016, a 30-to-35 year civil work contract will develop and expand cargo terminal building and runway, construct new passenger terminal building worth P14.6 billion.
For night landing operations, Laguindingan airport will start within the month. Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) will install and test air navigation and airfield ground lightning systems.
Abaya said.
“We are happy to announce that the Laguindingan Airport is now equipped for night landing operations. We hope to activate evening flights by the end of November in order to give the public more flight options as well as to decongest the airport during the day,”
In line with certain policies and procedures of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), officials from DOTC and CAAP are now conducting a joint inspection until Nov. 6 for safety purposes in order to double-check on any possible system defects.
Furthermore, CAAP will prepare the standard guidelines for arrival and departure procedures for compliance by the airlines using the airport in Northern Mindanao.
Moreover, CAAP and the airlines would organize flight schedules to ensure orderly operations and to prevent air traffic and terminal congestion.
“Night flights mean more flights and more options for passengers. As the gateway to Northern Mindanao, this development will spur greater economic activity to the bustling business and tourist destinations in Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon, Iligan, and neighboring areas,” the DOTC chief added.About Laguindingan Airport
